EVALUATING USES OF COMPOSITE MATERIALS.

Image
Composite materials is structural material that is formed by combining two or more different substances such as metal, alloys, glass, ceramics and polymers. The resulting materials has properties that are superior to those of the original component. Example of composite material. FIBRE GLASS COMPONENT *Plastic *Glass SPECIAL PROPERTIES *Law density *easily coloured USES *Badminton rackets *Water storage tanks  *Small bots   FIBRE OPTIC COMPONENT *Glass *Plastic SPECIAL PROPERTIES *Able to transmit data in high capasity and fast *Chemically stable  *Less susceptible to interference PHOTOCHROMIC COMPONENT *Silver chloride *Glass/polymer SPECIAL PROPERTIES *Sentitive to light where it becomes dark in lighted areas and becomes clear in dark USES *Make optical lenses *Car window screen *building windows *Information display panels *Camera lenses *Optical switches REINFORCED CONCRETE COMPONENT *Concrete *Iro

EVALUATE THE USE SYNTHETIC POLYMER

9.4- EVALUATE THE USE SYNTHETIC POLYMER   Polymer are large molecules made up many identical repeating sub-units called monomer. Monomer are joined  together by covalent bonds to form long chain molecules and this pocess is known as polymerisation.     3.Two types of polymer:         *naturally occuring polymer                starch, cellolose, wools, protein, silk, natural rubber.        *synthetic polymer               polythene, polyvinyl chloride(PVC),polypropene, perspex, nylon, terylene     4.Monomers in synthetic polymer and uses:      a.Widely used since their properties can be changed according to usage b.Additionally,it is cheap, easy to form and easy to colour. c.However synthetic polymers can cause environmental pollution.  EXPLAINATION HOW SYNTHETIC POLYMERS CAN CAUSE ENVIROMENTAL POLLUTION   Non-biodegradable( cannot be changed to a harmless natural state by the action of bacteria). Improper disposal can cause blockage of drainage

ALLOY!  An alloy is a mixture of two or more elements with a certain fixed composition in the major component is a metal. Pure metals are made up the same type of atoms and are of the same size and are arrangrd in an orderly manner. Pure metals are ductile and malleable because the layers of atoms can slide on one another when force is applied.                                                           4.In an alloy, the presence of atoms of other metals that are different sizes disturb the orderly arreangement of atoms in the metal. 5.The layer of atoms in an alloy cannot side easily and thus an alloy is stronger and harder than its pure metal. pure metal vs alloy video in 15 seconds: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NZ-ld-zwGLE THE AIM OF MAKING ALLOY To make metals stonger and harder. Resistant to corrosion. Have a better furnish and lustre. EXAMPLE OF ALLOY
